microTach+ Tachometer
Question |
Answer |
| Why does my microTach stop at 5000 (TC88 or TC96) or 5500 (XL) | Please read this Blog Post |
| Will the microTach+ tachometer work on my Harley or American V-Twin? | Yes, there is a microTach+ tachometer that will work any bike that Harley has made. Just let us know what year and model and we will help you pick the right one and if you need an adapter. |
| Will the microTach+ Tachometer work on my metric V-Twin? | It might. As long as your bike fires twice per 2 revolutions it will work. Adapters are available for dual-fire or single-fire ignitions systems. |
| Which microTach+ do I need for my 2005 Softail? | All 2004 or later Harley Davidson motorcycles should use the 2004+ digital version of the microTach+ Tachometer |
| Which microTach+ do I need for my 2003 Sportster? | All Sportsters 2003 and older should get the Standard version and a Dual-fire TachAdapter. Unless you have upgraded to an aftermarket Single Fire Ignition system, or an ignition system which provides a dedicated Tachometer signal compatible with TC88 motorcycles. |
| Which microTach+ tachometer do I need for my Aftermarket Ignition? | Some Aftermarket ignitions have a dedicated Tachometer output signal. The TC88 version of the microTach+ works best. Please indicate the type of ignition system and make/model of your bike so we can make sure you get the right tachometer model. |
| Is the microTach+ tachometer hard to read at night? Or in bright sunlight? | The microTach tachometer LED display presents a readout that is easy on the eyes with large (0.45”) numerals. The output has been engineered with day and night riding in mind — not dark, not bright. The microTach tachometer display is about 4x larger than the analog alternative. All of this in a device that is about as big as the end of your thumb! |
| How durable is the microTach+ tachometer? | All microTach tachometers are built, programmed, and tested by Speedway Instruments in Texas. The components are fitted into a machined aluminum case and sealed with a shock-resistant epoxy so there is no issues with moisture or vibration. You will see and feel the quality of the microTach tachometer. |
| How hard is installing the microTach+ tachometer? | Installation is quick and easy on all Harleys and V-Twins. A variety of online installation instructions show how connecting only 3 wires (Ignition, Ground, and Signal) can be done on a variety of bikes. The microTach tachometer can be used with any single-fire or dual-fire ignition system and there is also an exclusive digital bus version specifically designed for the newer 2004+ Harley Davidson electronic ignition systems. |
tachAdapter Questions and Answers
Question |
Answer |
| What is the difference between Single-Fire and Dual-Fire tachAdapters? | The single-fire adapter has 2 wires to connect to 2 coil signals. The dual-fire only has only one. A single-fire adapter will work on either Single or Dual-fire ignition systems. |
| What if I don't know if my bike is Dual-fire or Single-Fire? | Use a Single-fire adapter. Hook only one wire to a coil signal. Test the tachometer. If the tachometer reads 1/2 the expected value, then you have a Single-fire system. Connect the other wire to the other coil signal. Otherwise you can leave the 2nd coil wire unconnected. |
microSpeed™ Speedometer
Question |
Answer |
| When will production restart? | I don't know for sure, but it will probably be end of year 2010. There is significiant cost in redesigning and custom parts and I am was not able to recover those costs from this design. |
| How do I configure the device | The instructions are online inside the product page or you can also watch the turtorial vidos. |
| TouchScreen isn't working | The touch interface is disabled while the bike is moving. If it
does not respond when stopped, it sometimes helps to either turn the
microSpeed off then on or move forward a bit so that the screen changes
to speed display then back to Fuel trip display. Both of these actions
will re-calibrate the touch screen. Also, check these other issues: 1. Don't hold the case and touch the screen (the case is touch sensitive) 2. Make sure the case is not contacting any other metal 3. See note about rain below |
| After install, I get numbers jumping around and I can not configure the microSpeed | This happens when you first connect the speedometer to the Harley digital bus and the Run/Stop switch is in the Run position. The Harley sends data on the data bus which the speedometer miss reads as speed pulses because it ships set in the Standard MPH mode. Turn the Run/Stop switch to Stop. Then configure the mode to Harley digital either KPH or MPH. |
|
Does the touchscreen work with gloves? |
Unfortunately, not. Just like an some touchscreen phones the microTach uses a capacitive sensing technology which requires the conductivity of your skin. |
| What happens with the touchscreen when it rains? | The touchscreen may not operate under heavy rain conditions due to excessive moisture on your hands and screen. However this is temporary and touch screen operation will restore once it and you have dried out. The speedometer will continue to operate normally during this time, however you may not be able to reset trip meters or view odometer. |
